Carey Casey
Carey Casey is Chief Executive Officer of the Kansas City-based National Center for Fathering, joining the Center in March, 2006. Casey’s career has included serving as an NFL team chaplain and serving as co-pastor of an inner-city church in an Illinois community that was recognized by the Points of Light Foundation. He is a motivational speaker, delivering speeches and making friends with the many athletes and leaders he has met. Ken Canfield, founder of the National Center for Fathering, said: “Carey is exactly the leader NCF needs. Over the past 16 years, we built a solid base of research that underlies the materials, curricula, and other tools we developed for fathers. Carey brings the dynamism, the intellect and the talent to open new doors and get those tools to men who need them.” Carey is listed in Who’s Who in Black America and is a past recipient of the Dallas NAACP Juanita Craft Award. Other honors include induction into the Salem, Va., Alumni Hall of Fame and Alumnus of the Year at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. He was also an authentic athletic in the award-winning movie, Remember the Titans. Casey joins the Center after 18 years in various roles with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, where most recently he was president of the FCA Foundation, gaining significant leadership experience with a large, successful, national nonprofit organization. For five years he served as co-pastor at Lawndale Community Church in North Lawndale, Ill. where he helped empower the community with health care, housing, education and economic growth. In 1988, Casey served as chaplain at the Summer Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea, and had the same role for the Dallas Cowboys from 1983 to 1988 under Hall of Fame Coach Tom Landry. He also has served as a lecturer at the World Congress of Sports and the Senior Bowl and has spoken on life issues for numerous professional sports teams across America. Casey grew up in Salem, Va., and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. As a running back and wide receiver, he helped lead the school’s football team to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship in 1977. He and his wife, Melanie, have been married for 28 years and live in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. They are parents of four.
